Jog-A-Thon Raises Money for School Programs, Mr Mullin Eats Worms
Newland recently held our annual Jog-A-Thon. This is our PTA’s main fund raiser for the year. Students collected a little over $21,000 dollars for the PTA. As funds within the district have tightened and tough choices have had to be made in regards to programs, PTA has stepped in to fill many of the voids created by lack of funds. This year, PTA will be funding a number of different music programs for Newland. Music continues to be an essential part of Newland enriching all areas of our school. Additionally, PTA will be supporting art programs, field trips, new technology, and classroom enhancements. Additionally, Mr. Mullin promised if the school raised excess of $20,000 he would eat some worms. On Halloween, Mr. Mullin paid up!!

Newland's Parking Woes
With the first full week completed, I want to address Newland's parking woes. I've come to quickly understand parking, drop off, and pick-up are and immense problem. As principal, I'm committed to being out front in the cross walk as much as possible but even that will not solve the problem. Our new parking lot and drive thru is not slated to be completed until possibly January if not longer. Until then, due to our bus situation along with other concerns, we need to have our lot closed during drop off and pick up times. I fully understand that this causes problems, especially for our youngest students. I hope you can bear with us until its completion. In the meantime, I'm strongly asking you to obey parking and traffic laws. Please do not block driveway, park in red-zones, make u-turns in intersections, and please, please, SLOW DOWN when you approach the school. Our student’s safety needs to be everyone's priority.
Connservatory Music Training is Coming to Newland!
The Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) is partnering up with the Arts and Learning Conservatory to bring quality music conservatory directly to Newland as well as other schools in our district. This means all third through fifth grade students in the FVSD who enroll in the conservatory will receive professional music instruction twice each week at the school sites. Information about the conservatory program is currently available on their website www.artsandlearning.org. There will also be information at upcoming school assemblies, and at Back to School Night. Please see attached flyer.
GIVE WITH TARGET. VOTE FOR NEWLAND!
With tough budget cuts to our schools in recent years, donations are an essential component for providing the best education for our Newland Dolphins. This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Newland Elementary School once a week through or until Target has given away all $5 million. Please also forward this information to your family and friends. Vote and see rules at GiveWith.Target.com. Thank you for the support to our school and giving us an opportunity to earn a donation from Target!

Good attendance is key to a child's success at school. However, there are times that a child is too ill to come to school. Children are considered too ill to attend school if they have a fever of at least 100 degrees, vomiting, or have diarrhea. If your student will be absent from school for any reason, please make sure to report their absence as soon as possible.
To report an absence 24 hours a day, call 714-378-4202 or you can email the above information to our school at: firstname.lastname@example.org
