Jog-A-Thon Raises Money for School Programs, Mr Mullin Eats Worms
Newland recently held our annual Jog-A-Thon. This is our PTA’s main fund raiser for the year. Students collected a little over $21,000 dollars for the PTA. As funds within the district have tightened and tough choices have had to be made in regards to programs, PTA has stepped in to fill many of the voids created by lack of funds. This year, PTA will be funding a number of different music programs for Newland. Music continues to be an essential part of Newland enriching all areas of our school. Additionally, PTA will be supporting art programs, field trips, new technology, and classroom enhancements. Additionally, Mr. Mullin promised if the school raised excess of $20,000 he would eat some worms. On Halloween, Mr. Mullin paid up!!

Newland's Parking Woes
With the first full week completed, I want to address Newland's parking woes. I've come to quickly understand parking, drop off, and pick-up are and immense problem. As principal, I'm committed to being out front in the cross walk as much as possible but even that will not solve the problem. Our new parking lot and drive thru is not slated to be completed until possibly January if not longer. Until then, due to our bus situation along with other concerns, we need to have our lot closed during drop off and pick up times. I fully understand that this causes problems, especially for our youngest students. I hope you can bear with us until its completion. In the meantime, I'm strongly asking you to obey parking and traffic laws. Please do not block driveway, park in red-zones, make u-turns in intersections, and please, please, SLOW DOWN when you approach the school. Our student’s safety needs to be everyone's priority.

Children are considered too ill to attend school if they have a fever of at least 100 degrees, vomiting, or have diarrhea.
