Newland Food and Treat Policy

With the start of the 2015-2016 School Year, food and treats for birthdays, holidays, and other events will no longer be permitted at Newland.  Due to an increasing number of students with a variety of allergy related food issues, the interruption in classroom instructional time, and aligning with a greater focus on Health & Wellness, food for student birthdays, holidays, and other events will NOT be permitted to be brought to school.  This means:

Please DO NOT bring cupcakes, cookies, or other food items to celebrate your child's birthday or other events, including store bought items.  If you are hoping to do something to have your child's birthday or other events recognized in class, you must check with the teacher at least 48 hours in advance. Please note, nothing is required to be done for student birthdays.  If a student elects do something, it must be cleared with the teacher in advance could include the following appropriate ideas:

  • Giving a pencil to each classmate.
  • Donating a book to the teacher's classroom library.
  • Providing a book mark.

Thank You for your support with this policy change.
